Lagos is almost known solely for its go-slows and hold-ups, but that’s not all there is. While researching this post, I found over 50 bookshops spread across Lagos, from mainland to Island, from Lekki to Ajegunle. Here are the best 13 that always get every book you want. The bookshops listed here provide everything you need, including children’s books and stationery, political biographies, and history books.
Read carefully to spot the exact bookshop that gets the exact book you want.
Bookstores To Expect
1. Book Nook
Book Nook might be one of the most conducive and most organized down-to-earth bookshops you’ll ever visit. Located at Block 31, Gateview Plaza, Lekki 1 Lagos Individual shelves house individual genres of books so as to be aware of exactly what book you’re getting. There’s also a particular section in the bookshop where customers could have a glimpse or smell of a book before buying. It’s my favorite spot, and oh, they also left books hanging from the ceiling. It’ll wow you.
2. Mindville books
Mindville is an online-only bookstore based in Lagos, Nigeria. But despite its long list of books, the bookstore doesn’t stock a single history book on its shelf.
Where the bookstore stands out, however, is its pricing. Every book listed on the store’s website is cheaper compared to other bookstores in Lagos. For example, a book priced at Rovingheight Bookstore at ₦11,000 could go for a little less than ₦5,000 here.
To ease customers’ stress, the e-store provided two standard pickup points for its books. The first is located at No. 2, Bale Street, Ajegunle 102211, Lagos, and the second at 1, Olufemi, Surulere, Lagos.
3. MFM International Christian Bookshop
Mountain of Fire Ministries is one of the largest christian organizations in Nigeria, and this is its official bookshop. From the information donated to Google, the eye-catching two-storey bookshop is located at 40 Majaro St, Onike, Lagos.
It’s not a surprise that only christian reading materials were to be found in this bookshop, and not limited to MFM-only books. Purchases must be made in-store, as there is currently no functional e-store available for ordering books online. But there’s an online avenue where the organization’s only ebook could be purchased.
4. Rovingheights Books
It is the most well-stocked and organized bookshop in Lagos and ranks highest on Google search in Nigeria’s bookstore category. From its headquarters in Lagos, it spread across four major cities in Nigeria, including Lagos itself and then Ibadan, Kaduna, and Abuja.
The store is a literary heaven filled with diverse categories of books. Despite having physical stores with walls of books, they operate well online too. And all books ordered are delivered swiftly, thanks to their sound logistics operation.
5. Laterna Books
Since its establishment in 1996, Laterna Books has become the most popular bookstore on Lagos Island. But it’s not just a popular bookstore; it also positions itself as a reliable source for all kinds of book genres.
But what categories of books does Laterna sell, both in its physical store and online? You’ll find business, motivational, biography, christian, and even uncommon international books, such as Marcus Rashford’s You Are A Champion, in abundant quantity.
If you’re to order books from this store, rest assured that they’ll reach your desired destination in time. Its same-day delivery system is one of the best in Lagos, and they deliver nationwide and globally.
6. Unilag Bookshop
Just like every other campus bookshop, the Unilag bookshop is meant to cater majorly for the students of the university of which the bookshop is a part. Anchored on campus to serve nerdy students who are willing to go beyond just class lectures to self-mastery. But chill, non-academic readers will also find a book or two to buy from this ample bookshop.
7. Book Peddler
I was disappointed that no significant history book is to be found on the Bookpeddler online store. But what every book lover will be excited to find here in abundance are fictional books.
If you’re able to find a book you’re looking for here, you’ll be very happy with its pricing. Books here come with balanced pricing that doesn’t break the budget.
Children’s books are a thing of maximum concern in this bookstore, as it has a special section on the website that caters to kids’ book needs.
8. Vog And Wod Books
Located in Ikeja, the capital city of Lagos State to satisfy the cravings of book lovers within and beyond the environment. So, the next time you’re visiting Ikeja, be sure to check their walls of collection at 7 Opebi Rd, Ikeja, Lagos.
9. Ouida Books
This African literature-conscious bookshop was founded by Lola Soneyin in 2018, originally as a publishing house. Its serene store is located at 34 Ajanaku St, Opebi, Lagos; there’s also an easy-to-navigate online store that caters to its internet shoppers.
Books found in the store are fairly priced, and book delivery is fast and national.
On the store’s website, no latest history books could be found; beyond that, the e-store packs a great collection.
10. Patabah Books Limited
Patabah is one of the oldest bookshops in Nigeria. Since 1987, it has been keeping a stock of the best and greatest collection for book enthusiasts. Currently located at B18 Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall, Surulere, Lagos.
11. The Reading Corner
The Reading Corner has made a name for itself selling children’s books. Nested at 11 Bayo Kuku Rd, Ikoyi, to present parents with enormous literary options for their kids.
12. Lumbooks
If you happen to live in Ajah or its environs, this is a bookshop for you. Its physical store is anchored at 11B, first floor, Viewpoint Plaza off Nepa Road, Ajah, Lagos, and it’s cozy inside. Its white wall plus its dark-wood shelves are filled with vast collections of books from corner to corner.
13. Page Book Connoisseurs
This bookstore has one of the single longest bookshelves in a bookstore I’ve ever seen stocked with books. Its physical store is nested at 9, Oluwole Close, Canal Estate, Ago Okota, Lagos. It also has an online store where internet bookworms could satisfy their book cravings.
Finale
Most bookshops here I’ve not been to, but these are the most searched bookshops throughout Lagos on the internet. Is there anyone that was misrepresented or underrepresented, or which one have you been to or want to buy books from next?
